Since 1832, Glen Scotia has been shaped by the people, history, and events of Campbeltown, one of Scotland’s most storied whisky-producing regions.
Often referred to as “the center of the universe” by locals, Campbeltown’s rich farmland, local barley, peat, and pure water made it a natural hub for whisky distillation.
Whisky production on the Kintyre Peninsula dates back to 1609, when the first official license to distill “aqua vitae” was granted. By the Victorian era, Campbeltown had earned its title as the “whisky capital of the world,” recognized as one of Scotland’s five official whisky-producing regions alongside Highland, Speyside, Lowland, and Islay.
